What came back was a stack of publisher pages, several of them the same publisher twice, all describing mild period like cramps, and not one of them quoting a single human being.

So this page does what the query asked for. Below are 38 accounts from six public forum threads, each dated and linked so you can read the whole thing yourself. They come from Mumsnet’s infertility and conception boards, and they are deliberately split across cycles that ended positive and cycles that ended negative. A page collecting only one kind is evidence of nothing except who felt like posting.

Nothing here is a reading of your symptoms, and nothing here is a prediction about your result. Your clinic knows your protocol, your lining, your medication and your history. This site knows none of them.

Why does no forum thread rank for this question?

Because publishers are better at search than people in the middle of a two week wait are. Healthline keeps a dedicated page calling implantation cramping mild and possible a few days after ovulation. WebMD puts implantation bleeding at 10 to 14 days after conception with cramps lighter than a period. Both then add the sentence that takes the page apart: some people get it and some people do not.

There is a second problem underneath that one. Fertilisation happened in a laboratory days before your transfer, so every timeline counted from ovulation describes a calendar you are not on. The dates that do apply are in the frozen transfer timeline.

The wait is easier with company, and no easier to interpret.

What did 38 people in these threads actually describe?

Six threads, 46 posts, 38 of which described what the person felt, how the cycle ended, or both. Severe cramping preceded a negative in the first row and a positive in the sixth. Period like cramping, the exact sensation every ranking page tells you to watch for, sits on both sides of the outcome column.

Across all 38, fourteen described cramping or pelvic pain, eleven said they had no symptoms whatsoever, and thirteen described something else: spotting, sore breasts, nausea, vivid dreams, exhaustion, or effects they put down to the progesterone. On outcomes, 21 reported a positive, three a negative, one a positive that ended in a loss at six weeks, and thirteen either were still waiting when they wrote or never came back to say.

Data compiled from 38 user accounts across six Mumsnet infertility threads.

Why did 21 of them end well and only three badly?

Not because the odds in that fortnight are seven to one. Because of who types. A positive is news you want to share with the people who sat through the wait with you. A negative is usually absorbed privately, and that thread never gets its last reply. The archive you are reading at two in the morning records what somebody felt like writing down, not what happens in a two week wait.

One thread demonstrates it almost too cleanly. In October 2022 somebody asked, on the pregnancy board, for IVF success stories with no symptoms in the two week wait. Fourteen people answered within days. Most said plainly that they had felt nothing. Two mentioned mild period like pains they had read at the time as a period arriving. Every reply reported a positive, which is what the question asked for and why that thread cannot tell you a rate of anything.

Silent successful cycles are invisible on forums because nobody starts a thread to announce that nothing is happening, which is the subject of why absence is not evidence. The 11 people in this set who reported no symptoms at all are the clearest illustration of it we have found gathered in one place.

Where do these accounts agree with official guidance, and where do they not?

They agree on the boring part, which happens to be the true part: cramping in this fortnight is common, and much of it has a documented cause that has nothing to do with an embryo. The summary of product characteristics for Cyclogest 400mg pessaries lists abdominal distension and pain, and breast pain, as common adverse reactions in people using them for luteal phase support in assisted reproduction, with vaginal haemorrhage listed as uncommon. Common there means at least 1 in 100 people and fewer than 1 in 10.

They disagree with the ranking pages on something larger. Checked on 23 September 2026, the NHS page on the signs and symptoms of pregnancy lists twelve early signs. Implantation bleeding is on it. Implantation cramping is not on it anywhere. The phrase you typed into the search box is not one the NHS uses.

The timing figures everybody quotes come from a real study that measured something else. Wilcox and colleagues, in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1999, analysed 189 pregnancies from daily urine samples. Among those lasting at least six weeks, chorionic gonadotrophin first appeared 6 to 12 days after ovulation, and 84 percent implanted on day 8, 9 or 10. That measures when implantation happened. Nobody in it was asked what it felt like.

What the ranking pages say

What the primary source actually shows

Implantation cramping happens 6 to 12 days after ovulation

Wilcox measured hormone appearance at 6 to 12 days after ovulation in 189 pregnancies, and recorded no sensations at all.

Implantation cramping is mild and period like

The NHS list of twelve early pregnancy signs, checked 23 September 2026, does not include implantation cramping in any form.

Cramping can be an early sign of pregnancy

Abdominal distension and pain are common listed effects of the progesterone pessaries used for luteal support.

That last row is worth sitting with. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority page on IVF, checked the same day, walks a patient through the whole of treatment, then says only that you will be given a test date and should try not to test early in case of a false result. The regulator licensing every clinic in the United Kingdom has nothing to say about what you will feel.

What is actually causing the cramping?

Usually the medication, the procedure, or, in fresh cycles, ovaries still recovering from stimulation. Possibly implantation, in which case nothing exists that could tell it apart from the others while it is happening. Why the side you feel it on carries no information is in our piece on cramp location, and the discharge equivalent in what progesterone does to discharge. None of that makes your cramps imaginary. It means their causes are largely knowable and the outcome is not.

The one question with a real answer is whether to ring the clinic, not what the ache means.

Which cramping is a reason to ring the clinic today?

This is the one question in the fortnight that has a real answer, and it is about your safety rather than about your result.

The NHS page on ectopic pregnancy names low sided tummy pain, vaginal bleeding or a brown watery discharge, shoulder tip pain, and discomfort when going to the toilet. It advises contacting a GP or calling NHS 111 with a combination of those symptoms in someone who might be pregnant. It treats a sharp, sudden and intense pain in the tummy together with dizziness or fainting, feeling sick, or looking very pale as a reason to call 999 or go straight to accident and emergency. Outside the United Kingdom the numbers differ and the advice does not.

Ring your clinic rather than reading another thread. No clinic thinks a patient overreacted by calling.

So what do you do with the rest of the wait?

Very little, and saying so seems more honest than padding the page with rituals. By the time anyone starts grading twinges the result is already determined, and testing early mostly buys ambiguity, which we cover in the article on trigger shots and home tests. The related question of what the signs of implantation actually show ends the same way.

What the 38 accounts are genuinely good for is company. Not prediction, not a checklist, not a score out of ten for your own cramping. Somebody in May 2021 had severe cramps and a negative, somebody in July 2023 had nothing at all and a positive, and both spent the fortnight you are spending now.

Two Week Wait Forum Reading Reality Check

Keep these facts in mind to protect your peace of mind while reading online success stories.

Remember that people with positive results are much more likely to post
Acknowledge that absence of symptoms is common in successful cycles
Recognize that progesterone medication can cause cramping on its own
Understand that forum timelines based on ovulation do not apply to frozen transfers
Accept that symptom intensity does not predict embryo implantation depth

Ticks are saved on this device only.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a forum where implantation cramping accounts are actually reliable?

No, and the problem is not the forum. Any collection of accounts is shaped by who chose to write one. People return to post good news far more often than bad, and threads asking specifically for success stories guarantee their own answer. Dated, linked accounts are useful as company and as a reality check on symptom lists, but no thread anywhere carries a denominator.

Does stronger cramping mean the embryo is implanting more deeply?

There is no evidence for that idea, and the accounts collected here cut straight across it. One person described severe bilateral cramping with back pain at 8dp4dt and tested negative. Another described no cramping at all and tested positive at 6dp5dt. Intensity is not a signal, and nothing published treats it as one.

Can you have no cramping at all and still be pregnant?

Yes, and it is common enough that one Mumsnet thread from October 2022 collected fourteen replies from people reporting exactly that. Those cycles are invisible on forums for an obvious reason: nobody starts a thread to report that nothing is happening. Absence of a symptom is not information about an outcome in either direction.

How many days after an embryo transfer would implantation happen?

It depends on what was transferred. A day five blastocyst is already close to the stage at which implantation begins, so the process starts within roughly one to three days of transfer, while a day three embryo needs longer. Your clinic can place your own cycle on that timeline precisely, and this site ca

Is cramping at 4dp5dt too early to be implantation?

Early, but the honest answer is that nobody can tell you what any given cramp is. Progesterone pessaries list abdominal pain and distension as common effects and those start well before any embryo could signal anything. Timing arguments in both directions get made on forums every day and none of them have been tested.

Why do almost all the forum accounts end with a positive result?

Because of who comes back. Of the 38 accounts read for this article, 21 reported a positive, three reported a negative, one reported an early loss and 13 never posted an outcome at all. That is a record of who felt like writing, not a success rate, and reading it as a success rate is the single most common mistake made with these threads.

Finished the page? The same five questions from the top, to see what stuck.

Test Your Understanding of This Article

This article is general information, not medical advice, and is not a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional.
